Harris turned one on Friday. A year. Four seasons of Harris, culminating in a solstice party with haikus for Harris. The birthday itself was marked by several family calls including Kuftinec family harmonized Happy Birthday and short sweet videos from Mia and Sebastian and face time with several Arshams. Saturday morning began with Bill Cottman’s ‘Mostly Jazz” tribute to Harris. So popular that a listener called in to wish Harris Happy Birthday. We need went on a trek through the heart of darkness to get a picture with Santa at Macy’s. Mostly hoping to run into my friend Deb who is working up the Mrs. Claus all weekend.
The evening ended with a Solstice party for friends with festive cocktails, Serrano ham, cake, and Harris haikus. Best of below.
A brief year ago
Parents labor hard all night
A baby arrives
(Marion Seeley Kreisman–our doula)
Once upon a time
A vampire liked to say ‘meow’
And that is the end (Daniel Rovinsky, age 9)
One day he is born
Before you know it he’s one
Start the college fund. (Jamie Seeley Kreisman)
Haiku for Harris’s hands (the Morrows)
Hearty grip on life:
Reaching for the whole world
In his mighty palms
